Named for the little girl in Texas who found here when she was helpless and dying of predator injuries, Allison is a 3-year-old Atlantic sea turtle who's making history -- she's getting a "bionic" flipper.

Now a resident at Sea Turtle, Inc., a non-profit rescue group in South Padre Island, Texas, the turtle could grow as large as 450 pounds and live for a century -- not a happy prospect if she only has one flipper. But the good people at the veterinary, medical, and dental departments at the University of Texas have taken up the challenge. They plan to fit Allison with a silicon prosthetic flipper on her left rear side. That and some proper care in captivity is expected to restore the sea turtle's chances for a long, happy life.

Nice story, I thought. It's wonderful to hear that any creature which has the potential of living a century or more will get a crack at it. (Hope my kids are reading this and thinking about the potential home they'll someday move me and their mom into. LOL!)
