Calling all readers: What successes, failures have you had training your pets?

What has worked well for you when you've tried to train your pet? What has worked not so well??

I'm interested, and I'm sure our readers are interested, too, in hearing about tips and techniques you have tried for training your pets. I'm talking about everything here from dog and cat training to bird and hamster training; from potty training to teaching tricks; from training your pets to behave well around other pets to training them to behave well around people.
