If you’ve looked closely — actually, even if you haven’t looked all that closely! — you’ll see various pet supplies and products displayed around this website. But have you ever thought about shopping by clicking on the products and links here?
How often do you buy pet products and pet supplies online? Do you prefer to shop locally in the “brick and mortar” world where you live?
I suspect, if you’re like me, you buy most of your pet supplies and pet products in the community where you live, rather than online. It stands to reason that most items you purchase for your cat, dog, fish, bird, whatever, are mostly “low ticket” items. Paying for shipping on small purchases of any sort can eliminate any online savings.
But if you’re like most people in America and even worldwide, you buy or have bought SOMETHING online. I would be interested in knowing what sort of pet related purchases you may have made online, or you would be looking for online. This helps me understand more about what I’m doing, and it allows me to offer you products and services that you would like to see.
To clarify: I do rely on income from this and other blogs and websites as the “daily bread” my wife and I live on. That means I hope you will consider making purchases from time to time if you see something that interests you — and I would appreciate the chance to make products and services available which WILL interest you!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist at least trying for a pun with that post title. I guess I spend far too much time sitting in front of this computer and need to get out more.
Anyway, I just discovered a good looking site with some good products if you own a bird, especially (as the name implies) if you have parrots: Windy City Parrot.
I love the name of the place. I haven’t shopped there myself, because we haven’t owned any parrots or parakeets for years. (We owned a large parrot for one overnight stay and we’ve had various parakeets, as well as a beautiful male cockatiel named Snoopy. Some day I’ll recount those adventures.)
Go look around the place, if you have birds. If you don’t have birds, look it over anyway. The pictures on the site are lovely — and they have a number of useful articles if you own birds or are thinking of getting birds.

This is a bit of a blatant “plug” for one of the pet supply merchants I partner with — Pet Supplies at 24KCloseout.com. They sell pet treats — actually the sell a ton of other stuff if you take a look around — and they sell those treats in quantity at very reasonable prices.
So here’s what I thought about and why I’m posting about this website: Many animal shelters nationwide right now are feeling a real strain on their resources, due to weather related disasters, due to pets abandoned by people who’ve lost their homes, due to a huge number of issues we’ve read and shared here and that you’ve seen elsewhere.
Why not buy a carton or box of pet food, pet treats, pet toys, etc., and donate them to your local animal shelter? I doubt any animal shelter in the country would turn down the gesture.
Think about it. Take a look around the website I’ve linked you to above, and see what you can do. If you’re not interested or able, or you don’t think my “share with your shelter” idea is something you want to do, that’s okay, too. Maybe you’ll find some good pet supply stuff you’d like for your own pets from this truly useful website.

Let me invite you to visit our brand new pet posters and pet art work store. No, we don’t have art work or posters done by pets — not yet, anyway! — but we do have a fun selection of posters and art work featuring animals and pets.
You can find the store by clicking on the link in that paragraph, or by clicking on the navigation link at the top of the website which says, not surprisingly, “Pet Posters and Art Work.” The store is supplied by one of our merchant partners, AllPosters.com
.
If you click on any of the poster pictures or information on our store page, you’ll be taken to the merchant’s site to find out more and/or make your purchase. There’s no “catch,” feel free to visit our store and to click through to the merchant’s website. You can buy or not buy as you wish.
Please note, there is a huge selection of posters, art work, and even framed CD collectibles not only related to pets but to just about anything you might find interesting and useful to beautify your home. Take a look around and see for yourself.

There’s a line from a Robert Frost poem that goes through my mind every time our neighbor’s big dog, Ray, barks loudly and slams against the neighbor’s rickety backyard fence when anyone’s in our backyard: “Good fences make good neighbors.” (Seriously, Ray and I and the neighbors all get along very well. But the state of that fence sometimes worries me.)
You’ll understand exactly what I mean if you live in any town or city and have a large dog. Your dog best enjoys himself and lives a happy life if you have a good fence for him — and your neighbors love you for it, trust me on that one.
Here’s a “Useful Website” for any pet lover with large pets — the Sim Tek Fence website. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better made, maintenance free fence than one made of Sim Tek. The material is similar to a precast concrete, according to information on the website, and comes in a variety of colors and textures.
Go to their website and look around. You’ll see some absolutely gorgeous, durable fences there. And they have all the information you need, as well as easy contact information, so you can find out how to get a Sim Tek fence for yourself. You pets, and your neighbors, will thank you for it!

Being very curious by nature, I’ve been look at information about the various invisible dog fences/pet fences on the market. I don’t presently have a dog, only a cat, and we have no issues with the cat harassing neighbors or their children, so we don’t worry about a fence to keep her in. Actually, at her age, she generally stays on her porch or stays inside perched on the back of a chair by the window.
Anyway, here’s what I’m wondering about: Are these pet fences effective? Do they take a lot of work to maintain? Do they involve a lot of training to make them work for most dogs? And what happens when one fails — do they injure the pets or simply stop working?
I would love to hear comments and reactions from any of you out there who use or have used such fences. I know some work by administering an unpleasant but “harmless” electric shock, and that some others work by spraying a noxious but harmless spray at the pet.
Anybody out there care to comment and tell of your experience(s) with invisible pet fences? Tell us, please.
