Gotta travel from the Twin Cities? Here’s an interesting perk for pets
What happens when you have to travel but can't take your pet? Whether for vacation or business travel, you either find a pet sitter, relative, or you board your pet.
Dogs and cats work pretty well in most places, but what if you have a pet gerbil or parrot you need to board? Might be a bit trickier.
I found an interesting news story about a 24-hour pet boarding and doggy day-care facility which is set to open in October adjacent to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The Animal Humane Society will operate the center, with space for 96 dogs, 30 cats and 15 small animals, and with parking and shuttle service for their owners.
Two interesting things about this facility which I think set it apart from various pet spas and upscale pet kennels I've heard of: 1) money made will go to the work of the local Humane Society to help care for rescued and abandoned animals, and, 2) the place actually has facilities for a limited number of small animals.
I don't know the likelihood that anything like this place exists where you live. I know there's nothing like this in our area of the country. I would only hope such facilities will catch on, both for the money they would make for worthy non-profits like the Humane Society and for the convenience they offer for pet lovers who need to travel without their pets.
