Okay, now here’s a scary story if you’ve ever had critters in the house
I don't know about you, but my "love" of non-domestic animals, i.e., wild animals, tends to end at the point where they try to move into my house. We battled squirrels in the roof and even had a full-blown bat colony living in the roof of this old house at one time. This went on for literally decades before we got the squirrels out and the bat colony excluded.
For the record, we had several bats come flying down through the dwelling part of our house each summer over the years. None of them ever tested as rabid -- it was just a very spooky, scary thing in the late evening or middle of the night to have the little critters swooping down around the bed.
But spooky or scary doesn't begin to describe how I think I would feel to find out I had been living or working near a rabid skunk. That's what happened to the Texas man that article tells about. The skunks came into the company office, spent a weekend caught inside, then turned up curled up in a wall next to the guy's desk.
Which brings me to the point of this post: Wildlife is wonderful in it's place, which is NOT living with humans. If you suddenly find bats, squirrels, skunks, raccoons or other animals living in your attic or crawl space, for your own safety and the safety of your friends and neighbors, contact your local animal control people. Check it out. Rabies, from what I've heard, is a horrible disease that none of us want to deal with.
