Overweight pets — do you need to rename ‘Fido’ to ‘Porky’?
I just ran onto an amazing news item regarding overweight pets: Something like 17 million dogs in America are overweight, according to this report. I wish I'd found the report sooner, however, because it makes reference to a nationwide campaign to encourage dog owners to take their dogs to participating vets to have them weighed and evaluated for obesity.
Problem is, that nationwide effort was in February -- so I guess you'd probably have to pay now that it's March.
Nevertheless, you probably can tell whether or not good old Fido or Fifi really ought to be named "Porky" for yourself, can't you? Not that hard to see when my cat and the dogs I've owned in the past were overweight.
Let's face it, the problem isn't a mystery. Our pets generally are overweight because we 1) over feed them, 2) feed them junk food or table scraps instead of proper pet food, 3) fail to play with them and exercise them adequately, or, 4) all of the above.
I heartily recommend a good plan of proper eating and proper exercise to whip obesity.
Now, once I get that working, I'll see what I can do to help my PET to eat properly and exercise properly. LOL!
