Should you buy a cat condo or build one yourself?

Our old cat, Tigra, has a favorite spot to spend her days in front of our living room window. We have a rickety old recliner chair that's setting in front of the window and she simply nestles down on the back of the chair. When she's not sleeping, she's perched looking intently out the window for any signs of The Enemy. (The Enemy is Molly, the neighbor's Siamese cat. Molly has the audacity to walk past Tigra's window from time to time on her neighborhood patrols. Tigra insists that all she sees is her special domain and has no place for The Enemy.)

When she wants to nap, Tigra simply passes out securely settled into the recliner back.

But I have high hopes someday of building a regular "cat condo" to give Tigra the perch she needs to enjoy being up in front of the window, and giving us the excuse to get rid of the worn out recliner.

If you've ever considered a cat condo, you can find some beautiful cat condos for sale online, or you might want to try your hand at building one out of easily gathered wood and carpet scraps. Either way, I'm sure your cat would love the results.

Have you ever built pet furniture or houses yourself? Tell us all about it, please.
