This rescued subway kitten proves that cats don’t travel well - buy good pet carriers
Probably by now you've seen or heard the story of Georgia, the subway cat. The six month old kitten escaped from her owner's cat carrier while it was sitting on a New York City subway platform. She turned up 25 days later and was rescued by subway workers who heard her meowing.
Cats, on the whole, don't like to travel. They are curious creatures, sure, but they're also often skittish and don't care much for sudden, unexpected motion. Hence the need, if you must travel with your cat or send your cat on a trip, for a good pet carrier.
Above all, you need to make sure your cat -- and/or dog, for that matter -- is clearly identifiable, perhaps through micro-chips or at least a good ID collar. As a follow-up to Georgia the kitten's subway adventure, the New York Daily News discussed the sad numbers of lost pets in New York City, and infrequency with which they are united with their owners.
Hooray for the subway kitten and those who rescued her. And hooray for all of us pet owners who take steps to protect our cats, dogs, ferrets, turtles, snakes, etc., and keep them from getting lost or put at risk.
